Today was recuperating day.
Well, except for the morning. We had to wake up at some ungodly hour... AGAIN. We had a 6:30am train back to Ollantaytambo. And then our buddy Ciro picked us up and took us back to Cusco. We got in around noon. Checked into our nice CLEAN room at Hostel Cusco Plaza I (whoo-hoo!) and relaxed.
We had a great lunch at Amaru where we all had individual sized pizzas. Dang, the pizzas are good there! Nice thin crisp crust... And we were in the mood for non-traditional Peruvian fare (Dave and I kept talking about McD's and Burger King), so this was a nice change.
Can't remember much else of the day. I think there was lots of strolling and purchasing of items (I got a cool pair of Peruvian boots!). And lying in bed watching cable TV. (TV! Oh, how we missed TV!)
.
Oh, hang on, yes, we did have a big thing to take care of when we arrived. So our original plan for Thursday (tomorrow) was to go rafting down the Urubamba River. Now, originally this sounded like a fantastic plan as it was pretty cheap ($30) and my brother had highly recommended it. However, throughout our travels, we realized the Urubamba River is BROWN. Yeah, yeah, I know, it's rainy season, and it's just a lot of run-off, and it's just dirt, but honestly, I wasn't comfortable with it. It's so muddy looking! AND the weather wasn't terribly warm and we would have to wear wetsuits... Nevertheless, we wanted to change our activity for tomorrow. The travel agent lady wasn't terribly thrilled because she thought we wanted a refund. She offered us a 50% refund. But when we asked her if we could exchange it for horseback-riding, she jumped at it and said "Of course!" According to the guidebooks, horseback-riding costs about $60-70, but she didn't ask us for any more money, so we'll see... Tomorrow will be a surprise!
