Several years ago, one of the local San Diego pet stores was selling MASSIVELY huge tortoises:
The big guy was only $20K. He's a wee kid at 230 lbs, with an expected adult size of 600 lbs.
Recently, my brother's friend acquired several tortoises from an elderly neighbor. He now has the Discovery Channel in his backyard!... I don't think they are the same as the one above, but they will supposedly grow to be quite large.... Most of them were hiding when we went to visit, but here are some pictures of the male tortoise:
He didn't enjoy being picked up so many times and started to hiss aggressively at us...
